Construction and industrial application of a new strain for synthesis of functional sugar alcohols

The Microorganisms and Synthetic Biology Center has developed a microbial fermentation technology for the production of erythritol, which is a leading technology in the field of biological synthesis of sugar alcohols. Through continuous optimization of fermentation technology, innovation of fermentation processes, and the development of innovative techniques for selecting specific tolerant strains, the center now possesses multiple patented technologies for the production of erythritol. Among them, the Y44 strain has achieved an internationally leading level of sugar alcohol conversion rate after industrial application. Currently, this project has provided comprehensive “turnkey” engineering technology for erythritol to several industry-leading companies such as保龄宝(BaoLingBao) in terms of factory construction, strain services, process optimization, and personnel training.
Involving projects:

Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, National High Technology Research and Development Program (“863” Program), 2012AA021502, Research and Development of Sugar Alcohol Synthesis and Functional Sugar Alcohols.

Shandong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Shandong Provincial Key R&D Program (Major Innovation Engineering), 2019JZZY011005, Construction of a New Strain with High Conversion Rate and High-Temperature Tolerance for Erythritol Production and Industrial Applications.
